Its name in quechua being ari – que pay “stay, The city is located at an altitude of 2,328 metres (7,638 ft), Arequipa city is a good place to acclimatize to the altitude of Cusco and Puno, moves its visitors with an experience full of discoveries, to finally leave them captivated by the beauty of its volcanoes, the Misti,  Chachani, and Pichu Pichu, all of them located within the majestic Peru Andes.

Arequipa Information is the best way to know the city and its tourist attractions, Arequipa is a city like no other, with white volcanic stone that was lovingly fashioned by brilliant andean artists and spanish master builders, its baroque walls, its profusely decorated altars, and its streets that wind through traditional neighborhoods transport us back in time.

Its nickname, the white city, comes from the use of ashlar, an intense white colored volcanic stone, in most of its constructions and buildings. It gives an air of peace and tranquility to the place, despite being so active and energetic: it is tha main center of industry, commerce and culture in all of the southern region of Peru.

Monasterio de Santa Catalina

This beautiful monastery from Arequipa presents itself as, not only the home to the nuns and servers of god, but also as touristic attractions for all of those visitors that want to get to know it.  Monasterio de Santa Catalina founded in 1579 and  closed to the public for the firts 400 years, Santa Catalina was an exclusive retreat for the daughters of Arequipa’s wealthiest colonial patrons, We can see in different rooms religious paintings, the First nuns decorated their rooms with lace sheets, silk curtains and antique furnishings, Though about 400 nuns once lived here, Santa Catalina is located at the center of the city of Arequipa, the religious pride of the habitants, another of the many wonders of Peru. Up until today it is an unthinkable, unforgettable, and unnerving experience to walk the halls of this sanctuary and one that cannot be missed if visiting Arequipa.

 Cathedral of Arequipa

The  Cathedral of Arequipa  is located in the Main square of the city of Arequipa . It is the most important Catholic church of the city and also of the larger Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Arequipa since it is the base of the Archbishop and the Metropolitan Council. Its construction started in 1540, the same year that the city of Arequipa was founded, it was built in ashlars (volcanic stone)It is built of sillar (ashlar) with a brick base, The cathedral is also considered one of Peru’s most unusual and famous colonial cathedrals since the Spanish conquest.

Colca Canyon

Among all its beauties, The Colca Canyon: One of the most visited valleys throughout Peru, located in the extreme northwest of the Arequipa department with a depth of 13,650 ft (4,160 m), it is more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the United States, this valley is home to fauna and flora alike, incomparable to any in other places, and a loving, caring, and hospitable population that opens their arms to the tourists that visit daily. High flies the Condor over the majestic canyon that The Colca Canyon is, being one of the largest in the world, and the reason for common visits to the valley. It is a place worthy of a visit, weather it is an artist or an adventurer who makes the trip, given that it is the perfect spot to realize recreational activities from both sides. For the artists, painting, photography and for adventure extreme sports such as river rafting, cycling, trekking, and climbing are available.
